Christine Baker is the founder of Walk4Good. She’s a writer and marketing professional.
She is the author of Why She Plays: The World of Women’s Basketball (University of Nebraska Press 2008). Why She Plays provides a unique perspective into the driving force of the female basketball player, from youth basketball up through the WNBA and beyond.
She received a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Wesleyan University and was the recipient of the University’s prestigious Rulewater Prize upon graduation. Christine has hundreds of bylined articles to her name including articles in Got Game Magazine, Full Court Press Online, Confluence, The Tipton Poetry Journal, Beginnings Literary Magazine, The Survivor’s Review and many others. She is a RAKtivist for the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.
She is a member of the Author’s Guild. In 2008, she was named one of Hudson Valley’s PROUD Women of the Year in and one of Rockland County’s Forty Under 40. Baker was a finalist for a Billie Award in Journalism from the Women’s Sports Foundation in 2009. She was inducted into the Middletown (CT) Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 for her accomplishments as a three-sport athlete at Mercy High School in Connecticut. Christine was a finalist for the 2011 Sundance Screenwriters Institute in 2011. In 2013, Christine received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Mount Saint Mary College (Newburgh, NY) for her outstanding service provided through both professional and volunteer work. In 2014, she was inducted into the Mount Saint Mary College Athletic Hall of Fame for her achievements as a basketball player.
In 2011, Christine realized that she wanted to make a difference in the lives of others, and so she founded Walk4Good. She is a proud member of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.
Two dogs will accompany Christine at different intervals on the trail to keep her company. Because sections of the trail are not suitable for dogs, or open to them, in some cases, both dogs will be home while Christine hikes solo.
Jessie is an eight year-old purebred yellow Labrador Retriever. Her full AKC name is Jessie Southpaw-on-Hudson Baker. Jessie was one of 14 puppies from Moonlit Labradors in upstate NY. Her birth mother’s name is Tinkerbelle and her father’s name is Legacy. She passed Advanced Obedience and the Canine Good Citizen tests with flying colors. She loves the beach, playing frisbee, traveling, hiking and swimming.
Maggie is a five-year old purebred black Labrador Retriever. Her full AKC name is Dalwater’s Bound for Stardom at Moonlit. Maggie is a retired field-trial champion also from Moonlit Labradors in upstate NY. She is incredibly loyal, loves to play in the snow and be by Christine’s side.
